The Stoned Rockers of NITW
Our fest co-ordinator just asked me to mention the website as often as possible on the blog. http://www.springspree.org/. Now that thats done, I can get down to writing.
Vogue... the things it makes people do. Some years ago, in central europe you'd see one out of six women dressed up like a poodle. After TZP, 10% of the guys in college had their hair erected like one of those dhaba huts outside college. Apparently, that wasn't it . A new craze is pulsing through NIT Wit veins now.
All of a sudden, everyone who knows about LinkinPark, thinks he can do one better. With Indian rockbands like Parikrama and Mother Jane gaining international acceptance, our techno-phobic engineers to be are looking for a new way of life. It all started off, ofcourse, with the naming of our college rock band in the previous sem. They call themselves the Phoenix Connexion. Wonder what it means? I know a Phoenix is reborn after death or something... but this band was born not from death, but non-existence! Ah well, people do strange things. The second phase of Rock-O-Mania at NITW started off recently, when the spree rock competition was announced.
*Break* I forgot, I am to constantly advertise the webbie... http://www.springspree.org/. Please visit it and give our co-ord's soul some peace. *Break Over*
Ever since, everybody who has heard Metallica, or has seen a guitar before in his life, is forming a band. This is how band recruitment works :
Phase 1. Two people together get the initial brainwave... "Dude, if we work hard we can win. The only problem is, I can't do anything, and all you can do is bang the guitar tunelessly. But thats ok. Since we are the ones forming the band, I'll be the lead singer, you play the lead guitar, and then our band is almost ready. All we need is two more guitarists and one drummer... all backup people.. we'll take any random fella who will listen to what we say."
Phase 2. They end up finding two guitarists better than themselves and take them in the band. Yeah, thats one thing NITW has enough of.. guitar players.. and wannabee guitar players.
Phase 3. They search the college, and every other place they could go to... for a drummer, but in vain. Then, they search for somebody who has played the tabla at some stage in his life. They find one, and the band is ready.
Phase 4. They try to look for songs that they can play. What they basically look for, due to talent constraints in the band, is... a song with easy drums, easy vocals and a reasonable guitar. Apparently, there are many such songs available. Good for them.
And the band is ready. Then, they go to practice. They download tabs and lyrics for their songs, and practice day and night (pity their roommates....).
And soon, God save us, they will perform.

A Page from History
Away from the busy hub of spree a quiet little corner lies tucked away where the breath-taking creations of the nation's budding artists are put on display. A sense of calmness lies in the aura of the place and as soon as you enter it, all your mundane worries melt away as the myriad of colours and curves soothes all your senses. Yes, what else can this heaven on earth be, but Chitr, the National Level Art Exhibition that has been made a grand success thanks to the never-ceasing efforts of the Painting Club of NITW.
Everything in the arrangement of Chitr is perfection. Simply decorated with great elegance, the STPI now looks like it has been touched by a magic wand and converted from an empty hall to a place filled with the most beautiful of all art works and bustling with activity. The number of entries in the exhibition is nothing short of amazing. Not only were the entries of the participants displayed, but the breath-taking paintings of the judges were also put up for the admiration of the general public. Each work of art that has been put up is something that has reached the zenith of technique in its own genre.
This time, the newly resurrected Photography Club of NITW has joined with the Painting Club to take Chitr a step further to include under its purview photography along with paintings, sketchings and cartoons. This welcome change of exhibiting photographs has added to the grandeur and splendour of this already grand and successful exhibition, Chitr 2007.
